My quilty pipeline

Unlike worldwide oil supplies lately, my quilty pipeline has no supply shortages happening. To balance out this big supply, my only demand is that I need more time! Currently, I'm working on my Mom's quilt and a small quilt for a contest. I thought I'd share a sneak peek of my contest quilt. This is just a peek as I will post full pictures once it is quilted.

Here is the ice cream cone border--I put my thumb in there so you can get a sense of the scale. I have never done this type of border before--my quilting friend Diane loaned me her Darlene Zimmerman (www.feedsacklady.com) book "The Quilter's Edge: Borders, Bindings, and Finishing Touches." It's a great book--a wealth of technique info and a lot of quilts to drool over. I made little templates of the pieces for the border, traced them, and cut them out.
Here is some 30's fabric that *was* going to be a part of my design. I adore this red, but "in real life" it just didn't look the way my brain thought it would look, so I'm just going to have to save it for another day:
And here is just a peek at my as-yet-not-finished small top:
I am going to quilt this on my Janome 6600 using the new free motion quilting foot that I got for Christmas last year from DH. Planning quilting designs is not my forte--I am so in awe of people who do custom quilting professionally. I got a good idea from my quilting buddy Susan last night for some border quilting. I definitely need to mull this over some more!
