Toady guy

Well, actually it's probably the great grandson of Toady Guy, but what the heck--I'm just tickled that I bumped into him this morning! A few years ago I had a toad living in the back yard. I saw him constantly that one summer! He was pretty darn cute and was really comfortable being held in my hand. When fall came and he went where ever toads go to winter in northern Illinois, I actually missed the little guy. Didn't see him again after that summer. And then this morning as I was hanging out freshly washed stash fabric, look who turned up! I didn't try to pick him up (didn't need my kids thinking they can willy nilly pick up amphibians in the yard)--it's just fun to know he's lurking around out there. (I have a soft spot for toads if you haven't noticed!)
My green idea for quilting (I actually submitted this idea to Bonnie at Quiltville a while back when she was asking for environmentally friendly quilting tips)--save up stash builder fabrics purchased over the winter and then wash them when the weather is conducive to hanging out to dry! They dry so quickly as well as flat and fresh smelling. I would say the only drawback is that over the winter you kind of lose track of how much stash enhancing you're doing........oh wait..........that's definitely NOT a drawback! :) What was I thinking?
The big news on the home front is that this weekend DH set out to install our new kitchen window. It's an awesome window, only it turned out that to install the window clips, he had to pull down two of my big kitchen cabinets......and then he had to cut into the soffit above the sink......and then in true fearless home improvement bravado, it turned into "hey! let's tear out ALL the soffit and make shelves on top of the cabinets and add some up lighting to them! and a new light over the sink! and a couple new spot lights over the counter over here!!"

GREAT ideas--and I'm soooooo lucky my DH is amazingly capable at this kind of stuff--never mind that we found out that the soffits were hiding a lot of lazy electrical wiring gaffes and bizarre vent tubing left behind by the original builder.........sigh. I'm kind of a wreck--it's hard to function without a kitchen--but DH and my Dad are just cruising on correcting and re-routing all this, and I have no doubts that before too long my kitchen stuff won't look like this:
Or this:Or like any of the other random piles of drywall dust covered items gracing my dining and living rooms. Which reminds me I need to go--time to start cleaning up! I know it's just going to get messed up again, but at least I can vanquish the present mess!

Just a hint on any drywalling stuff...cover your heating/ac registers. That stuff will find it's way into your duct work...and it's not cheap to have it cleaned out. People never think of this and since I own a Heating and Cooling Co., I always think of it.
Good luck on the construction...

Think of all the money you are saving by having your favorite men doing this...yes, there will be a mess for awhile...but afterwards you will be so happy with the results. Maybe enter your picture in some kitchen remodel project contest...and win a million dollars. Oh well, you can always dream.

Have a great week.

What is that, a Christmas tree farm your kitchen overlooks? How nice, all arranged in neat little rows!

Love your toad as long as he stays outside. We had a large tree frog come up through our toilet here in Florida. He sat right smack dab in the middle of the bowl pleased as punch with himself. I won't tell you what we ended up doing though!
