I'm amazed that my little digital camera set on "sport action" mode could catch the kids flying around on the swing ride. Come to think of it, I'm more amazed that I could time clicking the shutter well enough to catch them both in the frame! I feel a little motion sick just looking at them spinning around on those rides--clearly they've NOT inherited my defective inner ear 'cause all the spinning doesn't faze them in the least!
On Sat., the kids went to spend the night at grandma and grandpa's, so DH and I went out to dinner (used an old gift certificate I've been hanging on to for 3 years!!!) and then went to see a movie. Our choice was purely based on what was starting at the time we walked into the theater, so we went to see Iron Man. I have to say that I *really* enjoyed this movie! I'm not the comic-book-reading type, but the story line was surprisingly good and Robert Downey Jr. did a fantastic job. It was a far better movie than I would have guessed!
Sunday morning was DH's birthday gift: a Richard Petty Driving Experience package! We got up EARLY (too early! ugh, I was pooped out all day) and drove to the track. DH got into his jumpsuit, ready to do his training and get in one of the race cars to do laps around the Chicagoland Speedway track, and I was doing my paparazzi impression with the video camera.........and this is what brewed up:
Unbelievable winds, down pouring rains--it was wild. And it cancelled the event. Sigh. We did get a rain check, so we'll be rescheduling. But it was a bit of a let down--I felt bad for DH. However, it was pretty cool to be in the center of the race track on pit row. I know he's going to have a blast when he actually gets to drive!
We later picked up the kids from the grandparents, celebrated Father's Day with our dads, and fell into bed exhausted at the end of the day.
I did do a little bit of sewing on Sunday morning after we got back from the track before getting the kids. Managed to cut *every* piece I was working on 1/2 inch too short but didn't realize it until I sewed all of it together. Had to rip it all out, so my net progress was zero! I hate it when that happens! :) I'm gonna blame it on lack of sleep!
