I have just been swamped this holiday season.....I've decided that it is a lot of work to try and figure out where to stash all the new toys and games that kids get for Christmas. Ugh. Not to mention that they are playing with everything all at once just out of sheer excitement--stuff is everywhere! But today I managed to do some quilty things and *gasp* actually sewed some!!!
My good friend Susan and I went to a couple local quilt shops this morning on the prowl for some good Christmas fabric sales and then went out to lunch. She and I are in a bee together, and we've been inspired by Jen (Cre8tive Quilter) to do a bee project of Jen's Christmas tree skirt. I am planning to use mostly stash fabric--I did buy some checked fabric and some green polka dots fabric to round out my red and green stuff. We'll probably start this project when our bee meets in January. After getting home from lunch I was really in a quilty mood, and since DH had the kids out, I took advantage of the quiet house and started sewing together the hexagon block columns for the wedding quilt. It was the first time I have touched my sewing machine in over a week!!
I got a great hand-me-down item this week: my in laws' old tread mill. It runs great and I am soooo excited to have it! I absolutely love fitness walking. I do go out during the winter sometimes--as long as the temperature is 35 or higher and it isn't slippery or overly windy, I don't mind the cold. But this December has brought so much snow that I haven't been out at all. I am really happy and grateful to have this tread mill!!! Now I can get back to walking again no matter what is going on outside.
The other problem I have had to deal with this week was finding out that my broker made changes to my IRA that he was not authorized to make! Boy has this situation ticked me off and created a lot of stress. This is an old 401k from a long-ago job--the guy called me and suggested a change, we agreed on a plan of action, and then he turned around and did a bunch of stuff we never talked about! He's in the process of undoing all of it, but darn if this hasn't stressed me out a lot. NOT too ethical on his part. Needless to say, I will be getting a new broker very very soon.
Will be finalizing my resolutions/plans for 2008 soon! DH and I aren't going anywhere for New Year's eve, but we will have some nice snacks, maybe a couple movies, and a good bottle of French champagne for the evening. I may even be doing a little sewing that night--what a great way to ring in the New year!

Wow, I'm flattered!!! Don't forget that if you're making them for normal sized trees to make thicker strips or add additional strips. I can't wait to see them!! I'm hoping to have tree skirts be my "IT" gift this next year. I've got all year to work on them. Perhaps I can do one every other month!!
