If you haven't had one, they are like little wafer saucers filled with tiny candy balls (like the ones you sprinkle on cookies) (Did I mention these airy little treats cost $21.99/lb.?). When we'd eat them, the preferred method was to put the whole saucer in your mouth and hold it there until the wafer mushed up and melted and the little candy balls come out.Grandma used to take us to the little corner store in her neighborhood--it had the old-fashioned penny candy in huge jars! We got to spend 25 cents however we wanted and took away our booty in tiny brown paper bags. We always got flying saucers and the caramel bull's eye candy. And one of my favorite candies from the corner store were little sleeves of "Violets." They were little *violet* (yes, as in the flower) flavored mints. They were square and they came in a purple and silver foil wrapper. They say that scent is one of the strongest senses for triggering memories. As I am typing this I swear I can smell those candies!!!! I have found out just now that I can buy them on Amazon.com and fully intend to add a case to my list for Santa.
