A rare weekend

Had a rare thing: a slow-paced, low-key weekend! DH was gone on business all last week--he came home Friday night to two kids happy to see daddy and one relieved wife. We went to my brother's house (the newlyweds!) that evening for a nice relaxed family dinner and some games of dominoes, Mexican Train to be exact (a favorite!). My other brother was in town on business (he's from out of state)--so nice to catch up with him, too.

Got up Saturday and had a big bacon-and-egg breakfast followed by a few lazy cups coffee and, for me, some time to work on the wedding quilt! (The kids played and DH worked on his pet project--software he's writing that will let him run his O-scale trains from his computer!). I finally cut up that second fabric set--ended up with exactly 100 sets of triangles for hexagons (the first batch of fabric, which was cut on the lengthwise grain, yielded 110 sets of triangles). Around lunch time, we decided to run by the library to pick up my ticket for Jennifer Chiaverini's talk tomorrow night and then went to a favorite pub/restaurant for a late lunch/early dinner--the food was great--I ate too much but savored every bite! Came home, kids took baths, and we did a family movie night (a Benji movie) with everyone piled on our bed.

Today we went to the movie theater--always a big treat for the kids--they saw "The Bee Movie" with their cousins and grandma while DH, grandpa, and I went to see the new Cohen brothers movie "No Country for Old Men." It was a good story although a pretty violent movie. These days, I do not make it to many movie theater movies that aren't G rated, so this, too, was a rare event. Then back to grandma and grandpa's for lunch and some playtime for all the cousins.

Now dinner is done, laundry is not done (oh well!), the kids are in bed, and I think I am going to play with sorting the already-sewn hexagons into color/pattern groups while I lounge in bed and watch some TV. Funny how slow, lazy weekends can tucker you out so much! And funny how really simple day-to-day things bring you such happiness.
