My Janome 6600 has been out of commission since late last week because it was sewing all by itself--even if I was a yard away from the foot pedal! And if I raised the presser foot, it would beep at me non-stop asking me to put the presser foot back down so it could sew some more. I got a great suggestion from Jen to see if it did this spooky sewing without the foot pedal attached 'cause on the 6600 you can also sew using a start/stop button (no foot pedal). This test narrowed the problem to something in the foot pedal for sure--the machine worked normally using the start/stop button.
I was going to bring it into the shop and have it looked at--and then my dear Dad said to wait on that until he had a chance to look at it. My Dad is one of those guys who can fix anything! And I am not exaggerating or being prideful of him! He's a born engineer who has an innate knack for figuring out how things work. He is old school for sure--not afraid to fiddle with any engine or motor or anything electronic.
So he took a look at my machine this morning--and as if on cue, the machine was REALLY acting up--probably the worst it's been. My Dad took a look under the machine bed and sewed a little bit using the foot pedal at different speeds..........and then, .............what did my great engineer of a father do??? He banged the foot pedal on it's side a couple times AND IT HAS BEEN WORKING SIMPLY GREAT EVER SINCE!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am still chuckling to myself! Of course he had a possible explanation--some electronic jargon that was way over my head. He said if it acts up again he's going to open up the foot pedal housing itself and see what's going on in there....definitely old school! Thanks again, Dad! It's great to be sewing again!
