Block 4 for the 1930's BOM

Finally put together block 4. This series of block of the month is called "Lessons from Grandma" and I found out another local quilt shop is doing this same series only they are using very contemporary fabrics, not repro stuff. My only complaint is that Grandma needs to take some lessons of her own on how to construct blocks with pressing instructions included!! I love the blocks, but the sewist (moi) is left to her own devices to figure out how to best press all the seams. I end up ripping out and flipping seam allowances on these blocks to finesse the layout of the seam allowances. Block 5 will be picked up on Friday.
In news on New Year's Resolutions, I tried my first of 12 new recipes last night: Lithuanian Sauerkraut Soup. It came out pretty good! Had it with dark rye bread and a glass of white Merlot wine--yum! This recipe will be a keeper--couldn't believe my 4-year old was eating sauerkraut/cabbage with such gusto!

That's really a neat block!! I usually press in oppotsite directions if it works out (light/dark) so that the seams interlock.

TAG, You're it!!

I'm also doing this block series, and the person teaching the block each month is a BIG fan of pressing all the seams open. Although I normally hate pressing quarter-inch seams open, I've done it on some of these blocks, and I've been pleasantly surprised. In the block you just showed, I did the pressing mini-four-patch open thing, and that worked pretty well for some of the seams. I agree; I like patterns with pressing instructions!
