A busy week

This past week seemed like it went by fast! I did not do ANY quilty stuff all week--kept busy with taking down Christmas decorations, took the kids and my Great Aunt Beulah to see "The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep" (it was a good movie--I was crying at the end!), and did a ton of laundry and general picking up around the house. The kids and I met DH for lunch one day. Now the kids' Christmas break is done--it's back to school tomorrow.

Today, to make up for last week, I pretty much spent the whole day sewing--first time I've touched anything sewing related since last year!! woo hoo! I actually accomplished a lot:

a. finished my block for the Eleanor Burns/Baby Lock "I'm Dreaming of a Quilt" contest. I'm going to buy some black fabric at JoAnn's tomorrow so that I can take a really good picture of my block to submit. I am really happy with this block!
b. cut out the pieces and did the necessary marking for block 4 of the 1930's Block of the Month--this block is due this coming weekend, so I need to get it done.
c. purchased fabric for the back of the wedding quilt! This was tricky--I know the quilt will probably be quilted with a variegated red thread, so the back can't be busy 'cause the quilting bobbin thread is going to be (probably) red or variegated and visible. I did NOT want a red back (would be too much like sleeping under a flat tomato) and I didn't want green (too holiday-ish) and browns/tans just looked blah--so I ended up going with Andover Fabrics "Daylily Days" fabric line, fabric P0260 3199Y. This pic does NOT look like the fabric to me at all--the real stuff is actually a very warm apricot-colored subtle polka dot. Looks great with the garnet red of the top.
d. sewed some more strips for the wedding quilt top.

The next big push is going to be to finish the wedding quilt top. I really need to clear this project off my plate and get that big movable design wall out of my dining room! (Yes, it is still up and starting to annoy DH!) I still need to find a solid red that will match the garnet red color in the wedding quilt fabric--haven't had any luck with that so far. Maybe when I go to pick up the next BOM at Thimbles in Lockport I'll find the perfect fabric!

Off to bed with me--need to get up in the a.m. and get my daughter off to preschool and me to my annual mammogram appointment! I'm very conscientious about doing this every year to protect my health.....if you or someone you love is due for theirs, gently remind 'em!

Good luck on your contest block. I can't wait to see it if you're ever able to show it. Probably after the contest. I wanted to do the contest but I had a hard time with the idea of, how do I know that no one else has ever come up with this block or if I've seen it somewhere and just retained it in my head?
